This is located in the head. By virtue of its natural snehana (oleiation) and tarpana (nutritive) qualities, tarpaka nourishes and soothes the sense organs and brain. The cerebrospinal fluids (CSF) found in the brain and the spinal cord is nearest analogue to tarpaka kapha. Isn't this found in the cerebrospinal fluid?
Function:
It provides for the wellness and contentment in the mind. It nourishes and supports the brain and sense organs.

The Vata, which has a special tendency to move downwards is called Apanavata.
Location:
According to Charaka, Apanavata is located in the following: two testes (Vrshana), urinary bladder (Vasti), penis (Medhra), umbilicus (Nabhi), thighs (Uru), groin (Vankshana), rectum (Gudam) and the lower part of the intestine (Antra).
Functions:
Apana facilitates the excretion of faeces and urine. It is responsible for the ejection of the semen, the menstrual flow and to bear down the foetus at the time of delivery.
